As you know, when you have a baby, this can happen...things don't always seem to go just as you had planned. Well, today was like any other Saturday...we slept in a little, Matt mowed the lawn while Taylor napped and I caught a few rays in the much appreciated sunshine! After that we all got dressed up and headed to Chehalis for a wedding. It turned out to be a little hotter than we thought it was going to be this afternoon, but luckily I had brought Taylor's sun hat and sunscreen just incase, since it was an outside wedding. It was hot. Like hotter than you want it to be when you're dressed up. Those poor men in their tuxes...ugh. Anyway, Matt sat with Taylor off to the side in the shade throughout the wedding (and several other daddys did too) and she was really good the whole time. When we got to the reception, it was a different story. Now, keep in mind that Taylor is a very mild-mannered, easy-going baby. Never fusses, especially when there's a lot going on around her, just always goes with the flow. Well, today she missed her afternoon nap. Combine that with the heat and the chaos and noise at a wedding reception and the girl just couldn't deal. We tried giving her her cereal. She ate it, and the second it was gone starting crying again. I tried walking around with her. She would arch her back and throw her head back and push me away. We tried to sit at the table and play with her toys. Again with the crying, back-arching, etc. (mind you this is a sit-down dinner reception, so everyone was at their tables mingling, and we were sitting with people that I didn't know. Fun!) I took her downstairs where it was quieter, thinking she might fall asleep....she was SOOOO tired. Nope. More with the crying and carrying-on. So, after a half hour at the reception we decided to call it quits. Packed up, apologized for the cranky baby, said our good-byes and went to the truck. She played the whole way home!
I was thinking about how I was disappointed that we really didn't have any fun at all. I was really looking forward to getting to dance with my husband and baby, eat good food and cake, and just do something different for a change. But, that something different is what threw her for a loop and she wasn't havin' any part of it today! I kinda giggle though when I think about how we must've looked...me trying to hold her while every one of her limbs were flailing about. Constantly trying to pull her dress down over her exposed underpants while pulling my shirt up so as not to expose myself. Oh, and I also forgot to mention that she threw up all over herself and Matt twice at the wedding, and then all over herself and me twice in the 30 minutes we were at the reception. It was honestly like one thing after another, and I was really overwhelmed! She's just NEVER like that! I kept thinking 'I can't believe she's acting like this.' BUT...she's getting another tooth, it was super hot, she was totally exhausted and covered in her own vomit. Can I really blame her for being crabby??
I'm sure we aren't the first parents who have given up and gone home with an out of control baby, but boy did we sure feel alone in that room tonight. I just knew that everyone was thinking "why would they bring a baby to a wedding if they knew she was going to act like that?" "But, we didn't know, I swear!"
Anyway, the moral of this story is...if Grandma and Grandpa offer to babysit so you can have a good time without worrying about the baby, take them up on it Ü
