Prairie Days

Ah, the highlight of any Yelm kids' summer...the Prairie Days parade and carnival!

It's kinda funny how I get so excited to share the things that I enjoyed growing up with Taylor...and seeing how much fun she had at the parade last night made my heart so happy! It was seriously what I looked forward to all summer (it used to be at the end of July...so that was a long time to not see some of my friends!).

The last few years the parade has been a little disappointing...mostly local politicians shaking hands up and down the street, and lots of space between the action.

This year, however, was pretty darn good!

The parade always starts with the Tenino Motorcycle Drill Team doing their thing, and they're always fun to watch. I don't know how those guys don't run into each other!

There's always a ton of candy thrown, and by the end this year, I was giving it to the kids next to us, who were trying to give it back to us! I think we're set for candy until atleast Halloween!!

This is the exact car that my dad had when he was in high school, except his was yellow. (Okay, so not the exact car...) If only he would've kept it, he could be cruisin' down 1st Avenue in the Yelm Parade, too! Bet he's kickin' himself now. ;)
Not sure if we're doing the carnival this year...I think Taylor's just a bit too young for it. The rides are mostly for big kids and the lines are crazy long. But...the Lion's Club does make a mean burger, and there's always the possibility of bringing home a giant stuffed animal! The stuffed animal alone is almost too much to pass up! ;)
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Have fun! Oh, and try not to break the bank trying to win that stuffed animal. We usually end up spending at least $25 at the fair trying to win one of the kid a toy that probably only would have cost $10.
